The Mediterranean diet
The Mediterranean diet is known throughout the world as the lightest and most refined, and the one which is richest in natural ingredients. It favours products such as bread, pasta, fish, fruit and vegetables. Equally important is the extra-virgin olive oil which is a typical product of the Mediterranean basin.
The frantic economic growth of the past few decades has changed eating habits as well as life styles in general. Meals which are too "fast" and contain too many fats are leading us into bad eating which is threatening our health.
Authoritative studies carried out in America and elsewhere have shown that "Mediterranean" food, from Europe to North Africa, provides the most balanced diet because it gives the human organism the proper amount of "healthy" fats. Extra-virgin olive oil in particular acts in an almost "medicinal" way on the arteries and the liverand other vital organs. It is especially useful in aiding child development, but it is also essential for staying healthy. This oil is not just a garnish, it is a food in its own right, and contains substances which are very important for our bodies. Because it is completely natural, it can be used not only as a dressing, but also for frying.
